To be Best for the World, B Corps must have scored within the top 5% of ALL B Corps in one or more of the five impact areas. We proudly achieved a score of 121.2 in multiple impact areas. 

Clean50 Winner

Emerging Leader Award – Mike Thiessen

Mike Thiessen, Genus’ Chief Sustainability Officer, has been awarded as a Clean50 Emerging Leader for his consistent display of leadership and innovation within the impact investing industry.

Top Project Award – Net Impact Report

Genus has also been recognized in the Clean50 Top Project category for their Net Impact Score®. Clean50 Top Projects annually recognize those projects completed in the prior two years based on their innovation, their ability to inform, and inspire other Canadians

 

Clean16 honouree

Genus CEO, Wayne Wachell, was listed as an outstanding contributor to clean capitalism as an honouree of the Clean16 individuals in Canada in 2019.
Clean16 recognizes the top 16 outstanding contributors toward a job-rich, cleaner, healthier, innovation based low-carbon economy supporting all Canadians to clean capitalism.

Through the development of a winning fossil-free investment strategy and the production of several Divestment Reports on the data of the fossil-free portfolios, Genus has encouraged Canadian investors that even in a resource-heavy economy, it is possible to build a financial legacy that does not contribute to climate change.

RIA Leadership Awards finalist

Genus Capital was honoured as the runner-up for the 2020 RIA (Responsible Investment Association) Leadership Award – Market Education, recognizing our unique contribution to advancing responsible investment in Canada.

RIA’s Market Education category recognizes companies that encourage sustainable investment by educating the investment market and sharing their expertise.

Business Reinvention Awards 2021 Environmental Leader runner-up

The Vancouver Board of Trade Business Reinvention Awards 2021 recognize businesses who have reinvented, adapted, and shown resilience in the face of all challenges and barriers in 2020.

BC Business of Good Awards runner-up

The BC Business of Good awards aim to celebrate organizations throughout BC that turn the principles of social responsibility into action.

Genus was honoured as the runner-up in the Environmental Sustainability category in 2020.

Genus’ Stephen Au named one of BC’s top CFOs

Genus CFO Stephen Au was named one of BC’s top CFOs by Business in Vancouver in 2019.

In addition, as Chief Operating Officer at Genus, Stephen is responsible for client record-keeping and maintaining the accounts for the Genus Capital pooled fund components.

He also serves as the firm’s Chief Compliance Officer, Privacy Officer, and Internal Auditor. Steve joined Genus in 2001 and has been a partner since 2007.

Genus co-founder Leslie Cliff named one of BC’s most influential women in finance

Founding partner, chair and portfolio manager, Leslie Cliff, was named one of BC’s most influential women in finance by BC Business in 2019.

She also serves as Chair of the Genus Board of Directors. Leslie has worked in the portfolio management and client service area of the investment business since 1986.

Leslie is an Olympic swimming medallist in the 400 metre individual medley, an honorary chartered accountant, and an Officer of the Order of Canada.
