2024 Climate Smart Certification

Genus has become a proud recipient of the Climate Smart certification.

What it means:

BMO Radicle’s Climate Smart operates to enable small and medium businesses to reduce their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, participate in building, better, stronger, more resilient low-carbon economy, and achieve cost savings in the process.

At Genus, we are proud to be part of a growing network of 900+ businesses and organizations, both in Canada and the US, who are Climate Smart certified. This equates to 7,848,000+  Total emissions measured by Climate Smart to date, in tCO2e.

Our 2022 Results:

Compared to 2019, we reduced our emissions by a whopping 42%* with the majority of the reductions occurring in transporting people – air, & staff commuting. 

Here are the equivalent examples of our carbon reduction results based on the average Canadian household:

  • Removing approximately 5 cars from the road for an entire year, based on the average annual emissions of a passenger vehicle in Canada.
  • Providing electricity to 3 Canadian homes for one year, considering the average annual electricity consumption of a Canadian residential utility customer.
  • Offsetting the carbon emissions from the energy use of 2 Canadian homes for one year, based on the average annual electricity consumption of a Canadian residential utility customer.
  • Avoiding the carbon emissions from burning 29,000 pounds of coal, based on the average carbon dioxide emissions per million British thermal units (Btu) of coal.
  • Preserving 2.3 acres of Canadian forests for one year, based on the average annual carbon sequestration of an acre of Canadian forestland. These examples provide a Canadian context for understanding the significant impact of Genus Capital Management’s emissions reduction efforts.
 

Genus will continue working with Climate Smart to further the reduction of our carbon footprint, helping achieve collective climate action on an organizational level.
